History
On April 1, 1969, George Paikos and Jim Hicks founded a new company, “Paikos & Hicks Associates.” These enterprising businessmen started representing global manufacturers of several different product lines, including specialty fasteners, metal hardware and casters.
In 1980, George and Jim decided to go their separate ways, and Jim Hicks formed P&H Sales Ltd. and P&H Casters Co. He concentrated both new companies on the import trade business, while simultaneously developing and growing P&H Casters, Inc into what would become a major supplier for shopping carts and related caster needs for the retail mobile equipment industry.
At P&H Casters, Jim utilized his skills and knowledge to design, develop and manufacture the first ever liquid die cast Polyurethane shopping cart wheel. These innovative wheels replaced the standard black rubber wheels that wore out quickly and often left marks on the supermarket floors.
Due to the overwhelming success of our Poly-U wheels on shopping carts, we expanded our product line to fit the retail equipment niche. The popularity of the P&H product line continued to increase causing a need for an expanded manufacturing facility. After outgrowing our first facility and moving a block north to occupy a large distribution center, we now have a very strong manufacturing presence based in Texas. Jim’s Polyurethane wheels are still being used in countries all over the globe.
Since 2004, David Hicks has ushered in a new generation and expanded the products and operations far beyond the U.S. retail segment. We now service the wheel and caster needs in many other markets, including airports, hospitals, bakeries and distribution. Although we owe part of our achievements to being the best at custom-designing for any end use applications, more than anything, we are defined by the partnerships with our clients.
